Put God first in everything you do. This may seem like an obvious statement, but it’s one that is often easier said than done.
There are so many distractions in this world that can pull our attention away from what’s truly important, and it can be easy to get caught up in the clutter.
But if we make a commitment to always keep God at the forefront of our minds and hearts, we can live our lives with purpose and meaning.
Everything else will fall into place when we focus on what matters most.
“Love your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27
This is a commandment from God and a sure-fire way to put Him first in your life every day.
In this article, we will explore 10 ways that you can put God first in all you do.
10 Ways to Put God First into Everything You Do
1. The First Thing to Do When You Wake in the Morning: Spend time in prayer and meditation on Scripture.
Many of us, especially if we have a lot going on in our lives, can get out of bed and rush right into the day.
But it’s important to remember the One who has given you this new day.
Take some time before God each morning to thank him for the blessings of another day and ask for his wisdom and guidance throughout your day.
The Bible is full of wisdom and guidance for each moment in our lives, so take some time to read it each day.
If you’re not sure where to start, why not try reading through the Gospels or the Book of Psalms?
If it helps, set an alarm on your phone that goes off each morning as a reminder.
2. Make Your Prayer Life a Priority: Commit to daily prayer and Scripture study.
If you don’t already have one, choose a time during your day when you can commit to praying and reading the Bible. Maybe it’s first thing in the morning after meditating on God’s word or maybe it’s right before you go to bed.
Maybe it’s during lunch or in the middle of your workday; maybe it’s when you get home from work. Wherever and whenever, choose a time that works for you, and stick with it.
3. Find a Spiritual Accountability Partner: Share your goals and prayers with someone who can hold you accountable.
Whatever time you choose to spend with God, why not do it with someone else? Find an accountability partner who can hold you accountable and encourage you as you strive to put God first in your life.
Having a spiritual accountability partner isn’t just helpful; it’s also good for your relationship.
It’s hard to stay on track with your goals if you don’t have someone to share them with, and it’s easy to let things slip through the cracks when you’re trying to do them all by yourself.
4. Join a Community Group: Make your faith an active part of every aspect of your life.
If spending time alone reading the Bible and praying isn’t your thing, why not try doing it with others?
A community group can be a great way to find friends who share similar values and goals.
You’ll be accountable to them as you work through the Bible together, and their encouragement will help keep you motivated to live for Christ each day.
5. Set an Example for Others: Be more consistent with your faith.
Everyone has seen Christians who are all talk and no action. But it’s also possible to be the opposite-to live your life in a way that makes God proud, but doesn’t always make sense to others.
Don’t get discouraged if people aren’t following along; instead, set an example for them.
6. Don’t Go It Alone: Look for opportunities where you can serve others and let God use your gifts and talents.
We were created to work with other people, and we need each other in order to be fully successful in our journey toward Christ-like maturity and growth.
Encouragement and accountability are wonderful, but they really only scratch the surface.
What if you had accountability partners who lived near you so that you could spend time together outside of scheduled meetings?
Or what if you had a community group whose members were able to meet on a regular basis so that you weren’t just talking about your faith online but were actually living it together?
Or what if you had a mentor who could help open doors for you in your career so that you could use your gifts and talents as part of an even greater purpose?
As believers, we don’t have to go it alone. God has already given us everything we need; we just need to let him use us. So let him use you.
7. Don’t Give Up: Keep going even when you fall off the wagon and it feels like God is far away.
You’re going to mess up. We all do, and we need each other in order to get back on track when we slip and fall.
So don’t give up; we’ve all been in your shoes before, and God is always waiting with open arms when we come back to him. Repent and start pursuing him in everything you do again-you’ll be glad you did.
As Graham says, “Don’t give up! Keep believing in Jesus Christ no matter what happens. Don’t let the hard times get you down. Don’t give up when things don’t go your way. God is always with you, and he will never abandon you; don’t ever forget that.”
8. Listen to What God is Saying: Pray every day and don’t be afraid set goals and act–on them.
God will speak to you at all times and in all situations, so never forget that-and never forget to listen to what he has to say. Prayer is an important part of your relationship with Christ, so never neglect it.
And don’t forget to set goals! You can’t just sit around and wait for a miracle to happen-you have to take action.
God will be with you every step of the way, but he won’t do things for you-that’s your job. Believe in him, love him, and work hard to please him.
9. Have Confidence in Yourself: Don’t let anyone tell you that you can’t achieve your goals or live a godly life.
Having goals and believing that you can achieve them is a key part of your spiritual growth and development, so don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you want to be a minister, be a minister; if you want to share Christ with others, do it!
Don’t let anyone stop you from doing what you’ve set out to do.
Don’t forget that God created you for a purpose-he wants to use your life in his service.
Never give up on your faith, and always remember the things that matter most in life. You can do anything you set your mind to, and God will be there for you every step of the way.
10. Don’t Stop Growing: Continue to be curious and ask questions of yourself and others in order to continue learning about your faith and how to live a Christian life.
Be curious! Never stop learning about yourself, your Creator, and your world. Let your curiosity drive you that’s how you’ll discover all the amazing things God has to offer us.
And don’t be afraid of asking questions. A lot of times we think that if we ask questions it means that we don’t know something, but that’s just not true.
Questioning something doesn’t mean you’re wrong–it just means you want to learn more about yourself and the world around you, which is great!
What Are The Benefits of Putting God First?
Putting God first is the most important thing in our lives. If we neglect him, then we’re going down a dangerous path that will lead to regret and darkness-we’ll become selfish and self-absorbed.
But when we put God first, we build a better relationship with him and learn how to grow closer to him. Plus, he rewards us for our faithfulness.
Here are some benefits of putting God first:
1. God Gives Us a Purpose: He shows us our gifts and talents and helps us uncover them.
When we put God first, we realize that he created us for a purpose; he wants us to use our gifts and talents and develop them in his service.
We were all given something special–something unique to us–and God wants us to use those things for good.
2. We Feel Loved: He makes us feel valuable and significant in the world, which is something that humans can’t do.
When we put God first, we realize that he loves us and that he created the world just for us. It’s amazing to see how much he loves us-he gave up everything for us, and all we have to do is accept that gift of love.
3. We Have Courage: It gives us strength to overcome temptation and achieve great things for God’s glory.
Putting God first gives us the courage to run towards him and to go on this amazing journey together. We can achieve anything we set our minds to when we put God first, and he’ll be there every step of the way.
4. Jesus is Our Example: He always put others first and never took advantage of people, instead offering them love and mercy that they desperately needed.
Jesus is the most important person in our lives, and he never stopped putting God first.
Whenever he had an opportunity to take advantage of someone else, Jesus offered love instead. If we want to be like him, then we need to put God first too-that’s how it works!5. We Have Purpose: Putting God first teaches us what our true purpose is in life, and it makes us better people who want to use their lives for the greater good.
6. We Experience Joy: It gives us a reassurance that things will be alright in the end and that there is someone watching out for us–even when the world seems dark.
Putting God first gives us such a great sense of joy and reassurance. When we know that he’s with us through everything, nothing can tear us apart!
7. We Construct Healthy Boundaries: It builds a bridge between us and God so that we can experience a deeper relationship with Him.
Putting God first builds a bridge/connection between us and him. We get to know each other better through prayer and worship, so we can get closer.
8. Our Faith is Strengthened: It helps us grow and keep up the good fight.
Faith is something that needs to grow every day, but putting God first helps us on this journey. We get stronger by trusting him with our lives and accepting his forgiveness for all of the times we’ve turned away from him. And when things are hard, it gives us the strength to keep up the good fight of faith!
9. We Build a Strong Relationship with God: It helps us see the bigger picture and uncover new things about ourselves and the world around us.
When we put God first, it gives us a relationship with him that will last forever. That’s what he wants for all of us-to have an everlasting friendship with him that strengthens with time.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement, and it’s great to hear that you’re working with your church to help get these concepts introduced.
Great article. So good to hear others are unsatisfied with just talking about the Christian life. Thank you for this article. Been trying to abide in Christ.
